These days, maintaining work life balance is really difficult thing. When there is so much to do at work, at home and in life, with little time, it’s no wonder why stress and burnout are growing. Also, you can’t do this to the detriment of achieving a harmony between professional and personal life, this is essential for your overall well being. Here are a few work life balance tips for you.

In this article, I will share some practical, actionable work-life balance tips to help you better manage the time that you have and, in turn, decrease stress and live a more fulfilling life.

So why is work life balance important?

Before diving into the tips, let’s first understand why work-life balance matters:

Improved Mental Health: Anxiety, depression, and burnout are caused from constant work pressure. Protecting your mental well being means having a balanced life.
Better Physical Health: Chronic stress can be harmful to your health, causing heart disease, high blood pressure and insomnia.
Enhanced Productivity: Not only do breaks help improve focus and efficiency at work, they can keep the body balanced.
Stronger Relationships: Quality time with loved ones is a nurturing relationship and emotional support.
Increased Job Satisfaction: If you’ve created a solid balance, however, you won’t resent your work, instead of being motivated.
Things like how to improve work-life balance.

    1. Organize your work so it doesn’t blur into your personal time!
Define Work Hours: Establish a regular schedule for work so that work doesn’t spill into your personal time.
Unplug After Work: Do not seek to check your mail or respond to phone calls after office hours. Designate a “no work zone” after the workday and on weekends.
    2. Learn to Say No
People tend to overcommit themselves at work and at home. Refuse politely any task or request if it doesn’t fit your priorities.
Saying no enables you to put your attention where it logically should be and prevents you from spreading yourself too thinly.
    3. Using 80/20 rule to prioritise tasks.
Pareto Principle reads that 80% of results are due to 20% of efforts. Actually, identify the most important tasks that you should focus on.
Make use of productivity tools such as to do list or apps they are useful in helping you avoid procastinating on low priority activities.
    4. Schedule “Me Time”
Make time for activities that you allow to recharge you (reading, working out, reading, etc…).
This time must be treated as important as a work meeting — as non negotiable.
    5. Stop what you are doing when you feel like it and do something else.
Taking short breaks also keeps your concentration more, and prevents burnout. Use techniques like the Pomodoro Technique and work in 25 minutes with 5 minutes of break in between.
Take these breaks to stretch, hydrate, or just rest.
    6. Leverage Technology Wisely
Time management: Use your calendar, task manger and automation apps to help you manage your time.
Though, steer clear from gadgets which if over utilized may distract you from participating personally.
    7. Delegate and Outsource
At work or home don’t be afraid to ask for help. Do some things that others can do to lighten your load.
If you can afford to outsource, use apps for such services as cleaning or grocery delivery for personal chores.
    8. There’s nothing more powerful than Practice Mindfulness and Stress Management.
Practice mindfulness techniques such as meditation, yoga, or deep breathing to counter stress.
If you worry about what you didn’t finish, switch to what you ARE doing.
    9. Take Exercise Regularly and a Healthy Diet
It gives us more energy, depletes stress and enhances our mood.
Having a balanced diet keeps your body and mind in the best working shape, aids productivity and keeps your emotions relaxed.
    10. Take Vacation Time
Just don’t skip your vacation days! Disconnect, relax and spend time with family or friends, use them.
A break from work is not only healthy but can rejuvenate your mind while also improving your long–term performance.
    11. Communicate Your Needs
Open up with your employer, colleagues, your family about what you need from balance.
There are also many workplaces that can be flexible and accommodating with employees who work remotely, or with modified hours.
    12. Reflect and Adjust Regularly
Balance is neither permanent nor stagnant, it is fluid, it is fluid and it changes with seasons of life. Your work and life balance should be monitored every once in a while and adjusted as needed.
